Fear may be a small word, but it can have a devastating effect upon your life. Fear is actually a threat response that is hard wired into us to help us survive. Without it we would certainly kill ourselves in short order; fear is a natural part of evolution.
However, that feeling of threat can become exaggerated beyond the norm, it can stir us into a panic that would, in itself, become life threatening. As an example, one client was involved in an accident when a small spider fell from the sun visor of his car. The actual threat of the spider (fear) was non existent, but the perceived threat overrode the mind's self survival mechanism and the driver swerved into the crash barrier. Luckily he survived, as did the spider.
Our threats can come from many areas, the known (spiders) or the unknown (dark); the past or the future can all induce the feeling of being out of control within us.
NLP (neuro linguistic programming) can be used with hypnotherapy in reprogramming our threat response; to turn down the dial, if you will, of the mind's percieved danger to a realistic level.
Fear, when at its correct level, is a life saving reflex and we cannot do away with it. Therapy can help you put it in context, help you to function normally even in abnormal situations.
